Jesus Understands Adopted Children
A Bible Study by David Hertzler

Jesus Christ, the central figure of human history, experienced some of the things that adopted children go through. Let’s explore these.

Matthew 1:24-25 . Who was Jesus’ mother?

Matthew 1:18, Luke 2:49. Who was Jesus’ true father?

John 6:42, Matthew 13:55. Who did people think was Jesus’ father? Actually, what relation was this man to Jesus?

Did Jesus have siblings? What was their relationship to Him?

Mark 3:20-35. When Jesus started his public ministry, what did His family say about Him?

What was Jesus doing that might have caused them to say this? What did Jesus’ brothers actually think of Him (see John 7:3-5)?

Who was Jesus talking about in verse 35, His true father’s family or His adoptive family?

John 19:26-27. Just before Jesus died, whom did He appoint to care for His mother?

What can we conclude from this about His mother’s husband, Jesus’ stepfather?

Hebrews 2:18, 5:8-9. How did Jesus’ experiences prepare Him to help other adopted children?
