Sex Sins Are Destroying My People
by David Hertzler

Visiting in a First Nations community, Joe* and his teen-aged daughter stopped at a friend’s house to use his telephone. While he was on the phone, two young boys came in and put a video in the player. It was a movie featuring a pair of male cross-dressers going to a women’s-only party. One of the party gags was to bring in an artificial penis and demon-strate how they would perform oral sex with it.

All this happened within full view of Joe and his daughter. At Joe’s request, the boys turned off the video and ran out to play. Joe was quite shaken by what he had seen. He later processed it with his daughter and his men’s prayer group.

In another village, I walked into the community store. Just inside the door, at a child’s eye level, was a rack of magazines that most stores would keep behind the counter “for adults only.” In a Christian home, I saw pre-school children viewing a TV comedy in which a man and woman went to ridiculous lengths to avoid being caught by the woman’s husband in an adulterous affair. In a hotel room, I visited two friends and found them enjoying a pornographic movie of the type not yet available in their village.

A friend wrote me:

“Sexual immorality is increasing rapidly among my people. Fornication is becoming more and more common. Mere children are bearing babies.

“It seems that we have come to the place where we have accepted this as the norm. I think Satan is behind all of this sexual lawlessness. Proverbs 6 and 7, a scripture about adultery, uses the following words: flattery, allure, prey, crafty, rebellion, enticing, lurking, hell. These same words are used in numerous places in the Bible in connection with Satan, the Devil, the Destroyer. “This passage also gives four results of living in sexual immorality.

‘By means of a harlot a man is reduced to a crust of bread.’ We often think of the crust as the waste part, the part to throw away. That is where Satan’s pleasures end up, in the waste basket, wit the stuff that is thrown away. ȁ‘Wounds and dishonor he will get.’ I have seen many people who have been wounded and have lost their dignity because of sexual immorality.

“Proverbs 7:23 compares the man caught in adultery to a deer with an arrow through its liver or a bird caught in a snare. As Jesus once said, ‘The wages of sin is death.’

‘Her house is the way to hell, descending to the chambers of death,’ Proverbs 7:27 says of the adulteress. Indulging in sexual immorality has terrible results.”

I have seen some of the degradation that uncensored TV channels, videos and DVDs and the Internet are bringing into homes across our land, in full action and colour. All the media have been sexualized to the point where our children grow up assuming that this behaviour is acceptable.

Government and private agencies are spending huge sums to combat sexual abuse. It is a losing battle. Even consensual sexual behaviour will destroy our people if it takes place outside the boundaries set by God the Creator. We must continue to resist this destroyer.
