Expressions of Love A Bible Study by David Hertzler |

The Song of Solomon, sometimes called Canticles or Song of Songs, is full of ideas and word pictures to help married couples express their love to each other. Some of these are sexual and some non-sexual. Respond to these verses by filling in the blanks. Song 2:7b. Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.* This statement is so important that it is given three times in this short book. There is a time and place for ____________. Sexual love is best when it is kept for ___________________. Song 2:6. His left hand is under my head, and his right hand embraces me. Give a name to this expression of love. __________________ Is this way of expressing love sexual or nonsexual? ________ Tell about a time when a tender touch made you feel loved. ____________________________________________________ Song 2:8. Look! Here he comes, leaping across the mountains, bounding over the hills. Are you this eager to get home after work? ___________ What actions would show your wife and children that you can’t wait to be with them? _____________________________________________________ Song 2:10. My lover speaks to me. “Come then, my love; my darling, come with me.” Do you ever take your wife out just to talk to her? __________ What would your children say if you did this? ________________________________________. What can talking do to keep love alive? __________________________________________________________ Song 4:1-7. Your hair dances like a flock of goats... Many women are ashamed of some part of their bodies. What part is your wife ashamed of? __________________________. How would it make her feel if you gave her an admiring word picture of this part of her body? Try it. _______________________________________________________________ Song 6:12. I am trembling; you have made me as eager for love as a chariot driver is for battle. What arouses your desire for intimacy? Is it your wife, or is it something else? ____________________________________________________________ What could your wife do to stir up your desire for her? Have you discussed this with her? ________________________________________________________ Song 6:9, 8:6. But I love only one...Close your heart to every love but mine; hold no one in your arms but me. How does it make your wife feel to think that you might love another woman more than her? _______________________________ How does it make your children feel? ______________________________________________________________ Summing up.
