Parents of the
Adolescent A Family Bible Study by David Hertzler |
|
Luke 2:39-52 records scenes from the life of the boy Jesus and his earthly parents. As you read the story, look for clues to how this family handled this stage of adolescent development. What verse(s) provide(s) clues to the following: 1. The growing boys readiness for learning outside the home. 2. The parents loss of some control over what was influencing their son. 3.The sons socialization and increasing peer involvement. 4. Difficulty in communication as the sons mind developed more mature thought patterns. 5. The parents anxiety at their sons readiness to leave boyhood and take on adult responsibilities. 6. Active listening and involvement by the parents, especially the mother. 7. The parents steadfast devotion to God and efforts to train their son in the same faith. 8. The sons ability to take care of himself in the big city. 9. A close and committed relationship between parents and son. 10. The sons deep interest in spiritual matters. 11. The sons good reputation in the community throughout his adolescence. 12 Good training, as shown by the sons ability to listen and ask good questions.
